The Scandal
Hong Kong stars Edison Chen (Infernal Affairs, Initial D, The Grudge 2), Bobo Chan, Gillian Chung and Cecilia Cheung are currently embroiled in an embarrassing sex photo scandal that has whipped up a storm in Hong Kong and the rest of the Chinese-speaking world.
Hundreds of photos featuring what appears to be at least five of Hong Kong's best-known entertainers have been uploaded to the internet by an unknown person called Kira (character from Death Note) after being copied from Edison Chen's pink MacBook. The photos show sex scenes and was copied when his computer was taken in for repairs.
Edison apologised to all the victims who've been "been affected by this strange, strange ordeal" and urged viewers in possession of those pictures to "please destroy them immediately". See Edison's apology video below. How stupendous is his comments. Who will actually delete downloaded photos and what Edison is facing now is not a strange ordeal. The moral of the story is to never keep personal sexual related photos on your computer.
Here is Gillian Chung's public statement (video below). She said, "I admit that I was naive and very silly, but I've grown up now. I want to thank my company, family and friends for their concern. As for the influence this incident has had on society, I apologise. In the coming days I will continue to focus on my work and face up to my life."
The Fallout
Edison has been dumped from the upcoming movie Jump, a joint production from Columbia Pictures and Steven Chow's Star Oversea Studio. All scenes involving Edison are said to have been cut from the film and the launch of the movie has been postponed from May to October.
He is now no longer the spokes person for credit card company Manhattan Titanium.
Edison fled to Canada when the news broke out and will return to Hong Kong this Sunday (17 February) to help HK police in the investigation of this sordid case.
Apparently all the leaked photos came from Kira and they are snap shots from videos. When will Kira release the videos? There are rumours that Edison might be in trouble with the shady HK underworld due to the leaked photos. We will keep you posted.
Update - 19 February
Edison did not return to HK as promised on Sunday. Has he turned into a chicken? Billboards featuring Edison were removed from prominent positions in Causeway Bay, Mong Kok and Hong Kong Station. Organized crime has invested billions of dollars in the local entertainment industry over the years. The current scandal has led Hong Kong tabloids to run reports in the last several days of supposed plans by gangsters to ‘teach a lesson’ to Chen and perhaps even kill him.
Update - 20 February
The identity of Kira is still unknown and Kira has released more photos of Edison and Bobo Chen in the last few days. Meanwhile, China is censoring local search engine Baidu, searches for Edison Chen sex photos. HK underworld figure has offered a HK$500,000 reward to hack off one of Chen’s hands.
Update - 21 February
Edison Chen back in HK and said he would step away from the Hong Kong entertainment industry to "heal himself", in his first public appearance since a sex scandal broke. He apologised "for all the suffering that has been caused". Check out video below for the apology in English.
Update - 22 February
Edison Chen spends night at the six star hotel, The Four Seasons. Before that he gave police his customized pink Apple MacBook nicknamed "Cotton Candy Mac", which is allegedly where Edison's sex photos were stolen from when it went for repair. The bodyguards hired by Edison are ex-US Navy SEALS hired from an international security firm.
Update - 23 February
Edison left Police headquarters around 7PM and returned to the Four Seasons for a second night after spending 10 hours answering police questions. Edison's parents apologized and said that they should have instilled more values into their son, and asked everyone to give Edison another chance. Objects and fashion clothing seen on the sex photos are selling well like Bobo Chan's Paul Frank underwear.
Update - 24 February
This is the second day for Edison at the HK police station. The police discovered almost 1,000 more sex photos that they did not previously know about. Most importantly, they also discovered sex video clips. The new photos shows three new women that have not been revealed yet. Could this be Maggie Q? Bodyguards protecting Edison's precious hands are from Signal 8 Security, with past clients include Bill Clinton, Mariah Carey, Prince, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Manchester United. Their services cost Edison HK$50,000 a day.
Update - 26 February
Gillian Chung and her other half twin member Charlene Choi attended a promotional event in Beijing. Reporters asked Gillian whether or not she accepts Edison Chen's apology and they did not get any responds from her. What is more interesting is that Nicholas Tse was also at that event. He was also bombarded with questions regarding the scandal and his wife Cecilia Cheung. He did not responds to scandal related questions but did say that "Not good, because Fei Fei has just passed away." The couple have not been seen together in public since the scandal broke.
Update - 27 February
A Hollywood Gossip website reported that Edison Chen had proposed to his girlfriend Vincy Yeung four times to try to dodge triad revenge. Some members of Yeung's triad family allegedly want Chen dead after explicit photographs of Edison with actresses and pop stars were shown across the Internet. But Yeung apparently turned down his marriage proposal. Edison has seeked help for his sex addiction at a rehabilitation center in Utah. But ran away after he was attacked by several of the other male residents in the place in a parking lot during a break.
Update - 28 February
Beijing Olympics 2008 ceremony's artistic director Zhang Yimou (Hero, Flying Daggers) decided to take Gillian Chung off the show after the scandal broke and had replaced her and another Hong Kong star not involved in the photos scandal. This rumour is unconfirmed where a recent meeting between Nicholas Tse, Cecilia Cheung and Edison Chen at the Four Seasons Hotel, Nicolas was unable to control himself and attempted to punch Edison. Cecilia tried to restrain Nicholas and broke down crying. Edison's security guards or should I say ex swat team came to protect him.
Update - 1 March
Two Chinese men from central China province of Hunan have been arrested for posting explicit nude photographs of Edison Chen's sex photos collection on the Internet. The men, surnamed Xiao and Wang have been held in police custody for five days. The pair had 400 of the explicit images, out of a reported total of more than 1,300, and had invited friends to their home to view them.
Update - 2 March
Edison Chen has left Hong Kong as police ended their inquiries with him. No one knows where he went yet. Chen's laywer said that Edison will have to return for more investigations or to testify in court later. A rumour indicated that Edison is now in Thailand seeking help from a saint for help.

The other half of the Twins, Charlene Choi says give Gillian Chung some time to gather her emotions due to being involved in the Edison Chen sex scandal. Charlene appeared at a DKNY Spring Fashion Show in Central Hong Kong.
Update - 5 March
What is Edison Chen's forgiveness index? An index from a survey done by City University interviewing 659 people. City University criminology program leader Dennis Wong Sing- wing found that 65.2 percent of the respondents would forgive Chen after his official public apology. Aww isn't that sweet.
